A quick post from the hostel. After a few days on the road in Bulgaria, Carey, Leslie, Casey, Lindsy, Leslie, and I are in Istanbul. We spent most of today wondering around without actually doing much. We arrived in the morning after a night train ride down and dropped our stuff off at the hostel. Then we headed for the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar too. After that we came back to rest and for the men to go to the barbar before venturing out for dinner at Tacsim, the large shopping and night life district. Good trip so far. Bathhouse, Hagia Sofia, and the Blue Mosque to come. Pictures to be posted next week.

Pretty Girls 10:29 pm

Sarah in a cute hat
So today you all get a special treat: two Pretty Girls for the price of one! Sarah, above, is a girl I met while in Athens last November for the marathon. We ended up hanging out quite a bit at the hostel and have kept in touch since. She’s really big into environmentalism and hopes to enter that field professionally. I’ve been meaning to post about her for some time, and with it having been Earth Day yesterday, I felt this was as good a time as any to do so. As a special bonus, she’s from North Carolina and is a good Southern girl.

Lisa Edelstein as Dr. Lisa Cuddy in House
Lisa Edelstein is. in one word, YUMMY in House. She played a bit part in The West Wing, but it is as the chief of medicine in House that she really shines. Beautiful, confident, sexy, and oh so smart. I could honestly say that I’m not so much doting on the actress as I am the character, but man, if Dr. Cuddy was a real women I would actually consider moving to New Jersey just so I could meet her on her morning run and having her fall madly in love with me. You know, just on the odd chance of that happening, cause chronically single and successful workaholic doctors date Returned PCVs with no jobs or money every day, after all.
Gallery Down Thursday, Apr 19 2007
Journal 3:44 am
Hey all,
I don’t know why, but the server that hosts my gallery recently started experiencing some problems. Most of them have been sorted out, but in terms of what was important to fix on that server, my gallery is low on the priority list. It’s a friend’s personal server, so I’m not paying anything, and he’s really busy with law school. So, for now, I will no be able to share pictures with you as I’d like too. I’ll post the nicest of the new ones directly in the blog, and I’ll probably invest in a paid account at FlickR when I come back home in a few months, but, for now, just cross your fingers.

I would have picked Athena…
So my friend Sarah recently shared with me her list of what qualities her perfect man possessed. My friend Chris also recently made a post about his perfect woman on his blog. Taking the queue from both of them I’ve decided to post my own list. Let me admit right out that some of these I borrowed from their lists, but most of them are my own (and the ones I borrowed I probably would have come up with on my own anyway). This list is neither complete nor to be considered a minimum standard. It’s just what I came up with while thinking about it for a few days when daydreaming on the bus and finally sitting down for half an hour and thinking it out. Also, remember that this is about the perfect woman, who, of course, doesn’t exist. In reality this is simply a list of traits I find attractive. Anyway, enjoy.

Fitness Room Completed! Thursday, Apr 12 2007
Journal 4:17 pm
I recently was able to go to Ruse and Purchase the fitness equipment for my school! Finally! Purchased items include a sit-up bench, a bench-press bench, a stationary bike, an all-in-one fitness machine, a punching bag with boxing gloves, and two sets of free weights. My institution cleaned up the room, made sure the lights worked, painted the walls, sealed the windows, and laid down som new faux parquet floor covering. I need to sit down with a the P.E. guy here and make a schedule for use of the room, since he hasn’t done it on his own despite my repeated requests for him to do so. Anyway, I can’t wait till we get this thing into regular use. Click here for more pictures of the room and the equipment it houses.
