Bansko:
Thanks to PCV Katherine Clark for this information on Bankso!
This information is from 2006.
Orientation:
Bansko is pretty small. There are only a couple main streets and with the map above you should be able to find everything listed here. Bus and train stations located next to each other on the north side of town.
Where to Eat:
Motikita:
Great mountain getaway to lunch and dine alfresco, the only sounds being the conversation and the babbling brook. The meat dishes are apparently very tasty. Menu highlights include cornflake-battered chicken and yogurt with blueberries.
07-443-3067
Located just beyond the entrance to National Park Pirin.
Molerite:
The ultimate mehana (traditional Bulgarian tavern) experience, this restaurant features some of the best tasting Bulgarian faire available. After 11:30 the chalga starts playing and people start dancing on the tables. It’s a popular joint, so call ahead.
04-443-8494
41 Glazne St. (Runs along the Canal)
Vodenitza:
A romantic, woody place in the center.
07-443-4019
1 Hristo Botev St. (Just south of Tsar Simeon, running parallel to Pirin for a short while on it’s western side)
Bai Koste:
One of the most popular places in town and always packed on student holidays.
07-443-2631
1 Veylan Ognev St. (Between Pirin and Bulgaria, south of Tsar Simeon)
Lion’s Pub:
Sports bar with a bit of footy always on the telly. PCVs swear by the “real” bacon cheeseburgers found here.
Located at Pirin and Glazne
Banski Han:
Live entertainment and more inventive Bulgarian cuisine make this an excellent introductory mehana.
Located across the gas stations on Patriarch Evtimi St.
Going Out:
**Ski Season Only, Mid Dec. – Mid April**
Amigo:
Usually crammed with skiers and expats, this bar is raucous even when it’s not karaoke night. Apparently has tall and colorful drinks, which makes this webmaster think of this.
51 Pirin St.
Amnesia:
Mondays feature all night happy hour. The music begins as top 40 and ends with house.
Behind the fountain in the center.
B-4:
As the name implies, this is your pre-party chill spot. Modern decor and full of foreigners fresh off the slopes.
Glazne St. near Hotel Lazur.
**Year Round**
Parfe:
Cafe by day and pre-party chill by night. Coffee and cakes dominate the menu. Ice cream is served year round.
32 Pirin St.
Magic:
Newly refurbished and popular cafe. VIP room feature leather couches and a plasme screen TV. No chalga.
088-859-4279
1 Hristo Chernopeev St., Off Pirin two blocks up from where it meets Glazne
Oxygen:
Underground and popular with skaters. Music is usually house.
Bulgaria St, just behind the center square.
Nai-Klub:
Chalga joint and full scantily clad Bulgarkas. Interior decorated with a zebra skins and tiki lounge theme. There’s even a live “tribal” drummer.
Base Camp:
Features live bands from Sofia.
Across from the telephone factory.
