Veliko Turnovo (My favorite city!):
Hostel Mostel:
I never got the chance to stay in Hostel Mostel’s VT location, but I love their Sofia location. The owners are super-nice, and I understand that Todor manages the VT location. Todor was an employee at the Sofia one who ran it in the owner’s absence. He’s super-cool and will be your friend. I can’t recommend Hostel Mostel enough.
The Loft Hostel:
Owned by a RPCV who also served in Bulgaria, the Loft Hostel is located right in the middle of the city and was just fine when I stayed there. The owner is cool and is becoming quite the Bulgarka herself.
Graham’s Hostel:
Graham is a Limey living in Veliko Turnovo and owns his own hostel. He’s a really cool guy known not only for his cheap but reliable digs, but also for being one to go out to the bars and discos with his guests. His place is located a block or two behind the Tourist Information Center. Ask there how to get there exactly. 088-572-6733. lowcostel@hotmail.com
Hikers Hostel:
Operated by the same company as the one located in Plovdiv. I’ve never stayed, but it comes highly recommended from other reputable hostels.
Shtetslivitsa:
The place all the PCVs go for dinner when in VT. Boasts a great view of the river and valley, as well as a great menu full of huge pizzas and great pastas. Their yogurt desert is to die for as well. Located somewhere along the man drag in a wooden structure, it’s hard to miss.
